Watercolour:

The following paintings are miniatures, none of them is over 4" and I've even included some of my abstract work.

Watercolour Pencils:

This was a fun miniature.  It's a unique hedge - shaped like a unicorn and it belongs to a very good friend.  It's such an unusual feature and I think it's lovely.

These last two watercolour pencil paintings are of The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Northumberland, and have been completed in monochrome.  The first is black and white, and the second in sepia tones.

Early graphite/pencil sketches done when I was back at school, all those hundreds of years ago (well ... it feels like it).

Except for this one, a recent attempt at a country lane in pen and ink.

The next three drawings were inspired by paintings seen in The Walker Art Gallery (my second home as a child in Liverpool), a magazine advertisement and a children's book cover.  These are just my interpretations, they are a bit loose and free in that interpretation, but they all had such an effect on me when I first saw them, that regardless of my amateurish results, I felt compelled to draw them.

Faithful Unto Death (1865) by Edward Poynter (1836-1919)

I would always go look at this painting when I visited the Walker Art Gallery, every time without fail; it just had to be done.  Such a fabulous piece of work, the colours were so realistic that I almost felt the searing heat of the impending destruction of the city whilst this faithful soldier kept watch, literally unto his death.  If you get the chance to see it, please do, it is a fabulous painting.

This one is from a magazine ad, can't recall the title of it but this piece was entitled 'Hush Puppy.'

And the cover of the excellent 'The Weirdstone of Brisingamen' by Alan Garner.  Something about the artwork kept egging me on to have a go at drawing it, can't say it's any good but it's my take on this brilliant book cover.
